Postpartum Nutritional Therapist
Personalised nutrition support for women after birth, from the early postpartum months through the years of motherhood.
Feeling depleted after having a baby?
Pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding and the relentless demands of looking after a baby can take a huge amount out of you physically and emotionally. Many women expect to feel tired in the early months, but sometimes that sense of depletion lingers far longer than expected.
You may be struggling with exhaustion, low energy, brain fog, mood changes, poor resilience, digestive symptoms, intense hunger, disrupted blood sugar, hair loss, low iron or simply a feeling that you have never quite rebuilt yourself after pregnancy and birth.
As a Nutritional Therapist, I work with women in Devon and across the UK to understand what may be contributing to how they are feeling and to create a personalised plan that supports recovery, nourishment and long-term health.
Why postpartum nutrition matters
The postpartum period places unusually high nutritional demands on the body. Pregnancy requires significant stores of nutrients such as iron, folate, choline, iodine, calcium, vitamin D and essential fatty acids, and breastfeeding can increase those demands further.
At the same time, new motherhood often makes eating well harder. Broken sleep, feeding a baby, caring for other children and having very little time to yourself can mean meals become rushed, irregular or centred around whatever is easiest.
Good postpartum nutrition is not about perfection. It is about making sure your body has the protein, energy, micronutrients and hydration it needs to recover, regulate and function well.
Common reasons women come to see me after birth
You may want support with:
- persistent fatigue or feeling depleted
- low iron or nutrient deficiencies
- breastfeeding nutrition
- intense hunger or unstable energy
- blood sugar regulation
- digestive changes after pregnancy or birth
- constipation or bloating
- hair loss
- mood changes and poor resilience
- hormonal changes or difficult periods
- rebuilding strength after pregnancy
- preparing your body for another pregnancy
- simply wanting to feel more like yourself again
I don’t look at these symptoms in isolation. I take a broad view of your health history, pregnancy, birth, breastfeeding, sleep, diet, stress, digestion and current demands so that we can understand the whole picture.
After having my first baby I was having more health issues. I am so glad to have been recommended Anoushka… She looked at my health as a whole, both physical and mental, and came up with a plan for me which included diet and lifestyle changes and also supplements… As a result, within a few months, pretty much all of my health issues have gone. It has been remarkable and has completely changed my life for the better!

My approach to postpartum nutritional therapy
My approach is highly personalised. Rather than handing you a rigid diet plan, I look at what is realistically achievable within your life as it is now.
We may focus on improving protein intake, rebuilding iron and other nutrient stores, stabilising blood sugar, supporting digestion, improving hydration and making meals more nourishing without making them more complicated.
Where appropriate, I may also recommend blood testing or other investigations to help clarify whether deficiencies or other factors are contributing to how you are feeling.
The aim is to create a plan that feels supportive rather than overwhelming — something that helps you gradually rebuild rather than adding another job to your list.
Breastfeeding and maternal nutrition
Breastfeeding places additional nutritional demands on the body, particularly when it continues for many months or years.
My focus is always on supporting the mother as well as the baby. That may include making sure you are eating enough, getting adequate protein, calcium, iodine, choline, vitamin D, omega-3 fats and other important nutrients, while also supporting hydration and energy.
Breastfeeding nutrition does not need to be complicated, but it does need to take account of the fact that your body is doing an enormous amount of work.
Postpartum recovery is not just about the first six weeks
One of the things I feel strongly about is that postpartum health should not have an expiry date.
You can be one, two or several years after birth and still be dealing with the physical consequences of pregnancy, breastfeeding, broken sleep and the demands of motherhood.
There is no point at which you are “too late” to nourish yourself properly, rebuild nutrient stores, improve your energy or start feeling stronger again.
Working with Anoushka has changed my life. I was feeling desperate when I had my first appointment with her. I had been suffering from SIBO, PTSD after having a baby, suffered from anxiety and found it hard to leave the house… When I spoke to Anoushka I cannot describe the relief I felt. I was finally being taken seriously and felt like she genuinely cared for my wellbeing and wanted to help get me better
